We are an Anglican Church in the Villa Park neighborhood in south-west Denver.  We seek to share in the life of God together by re-defining and re-orienting everything around the gospel of Jesus Christ. We follow a liturgical form of worship and welcome friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.

Our Neighborhood

At Church of the Advent, we are passionate about serving and extending the gospel to the neighborhood in which God has placed us. Our neighborhood, Villa Park, is located about 2 miles west of downtown Denver.  It is a growing neighborhood, flowing with diversity.  Like so many neighborhoods in Denver, it is teeming with signs of new life.  It also has deep historic roots of a strong Latino presence, which bring much richness to the neighborhood.

Villa Park is home to several parks, Martinez, Paco Sanchez, Dry Gulch, and Barnum Park are all a part of a creek system which meanders through the neighborhood. The confluence of three different creeks creates natural areas in Villa Park that are typically hard to find in Urban Denver. Several walking and biking trails connect these parks and the Villa Park neighborhood to the rest of the city. It's an exciting neighborhood, which combines urban life and natural resources beautifully. The neighborhood is full of families, young professionals, and a variety of ethnicities.

Our City

We are passionate about being a restorative presence in our city, Denver, as well. Adventers are involved in a variety of ministries across Denver. Here are a few you can get involved in!

Women's Homeless Initiative: Adventers have helped staff this volunteer ministry, sponsored by Capitol Hill United Ministries, since its inception in 2011.  Our team helps on the second Saturday night of each month with cooking, serving, and building relationships with the women. Danielle Williams leads our team. Contact her at danielle.linton@gmail.com for more information or to join this team.

Our world

Our mission team traveled to Fresnillo in the state of Zacatecas in Mexico in March of 2018 to visit La Iglesia del Gran Pastor.  Gran Pastor is a thriving congregation in a city of about 200,000 residents in an arid, semi-desert environment in the interior of Mexico. Advent shares an affiliation with Gran Pastor as both are members of the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA). During the trip, our team and the leadership of Gran Pastor explored the possibility of a special, long-term friendship between our two churches, sometimes described as a “sister-to-sister” relationship. Our shared vision is that this relationship will be a mutually-beneficial partnership in the gospel with our brothers and sisters in Mexico. The focus of this first trip was to build relationship and get to know each other. In this respect, the trip was a great success. While we were there, we participated in Gran Pastor’s children and youth ministries, attended Sunday service and led several workshops. The people of Gran Pastor received our mission team with tremendous hospitality, and we look forward to further developing our special partnership in the near future.

In March of 2019, we sent another team to Gran Pastor to continue to build on our relationship. This trip was a wonderful taste of God's kingdom! We spent so much time around "la mesa" (“the table") eating and talking and just getting to know each other. This is precisely what we hope this partnership will involve: a deep heart connection which overflows into mutual support and encouragement as brothers and sisters at home in our Father's love. Particular delights included: seeing Gran Pastor’s amazing outreach to the kids in their neighborhood, worshipping with them on Sunday, and getting to know Pastor Farhid and his family. It was also very encouraging to see the team of leaders at Gran Pastor and their eagerness to pursue discipleship. They are partnering with many other churches to spread the gospel throughout Mexico. We are very excited to see what God will do through Gran Pastor and how we might play a small part in encouraging them in God's work!

Our desire to pursue a sister-to-sister relationship with another Anglican Church in Latin America came out of a trip our mission team took to Curahuasi, Peru in February of 2017 (along with Pastor Rob's trip to Rwanda in 2017). The small village of Curahuasi, Peru is located in the beautiful Andes Mountains. Curahausi is located in the Apurimac region, which is known as the poorhouse of Peru. Approximately 750,000 people (predominantly indigenous) live within a three hour radius of Curahuasi. Most of the locals speak Spanish and Quechua. This area is predominantly Roman Catholic, with 10% being Evangelical. There is a lot of superstition and animism carried over from the old Incan religious traditions and customs.

Our team partnered with a local church to host VBS (Vacation Bible School) for three days. They also worked to build a dormitory loft in a home in order to give the kids a place to sleep that was off the wet floor where the animals were kept.

Our team visited this orphanage in Curahuasi, Peru. It was mostly complete and waiting for the first children to arrive.
